World Heritage Daintree Rainforest is located 73 miles north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway.  Daintree has 140,000 acres and is a 110-million-year old rain forest full of rare plants and animals. Travel into this area either by doing a 4WD day trip out of Cairns or spending a night or two in this area at a rain forest resort.   On your way to Daintree and Cape Tribulation, you will pass through Port Douglas which is 60 minutes north of Cairns.  Your Travel Source can set you up with the right tour operator or the right place to stay in the rain forest.

Mossman Gorge is on the way to Daintree.

Port Douglas is one hour north of Cairns and is the gateway to Daintree and Cape Tribulation and also a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. 

To get to the Daintree Rainforest you must cross the crocodile-infested Daintree River on a car ferry which takes only 16 cars at a time.  Once you make the crossing, you enter a tropical rainforest.  

Cape Tribulation

The Daintree Rainforest Discovery Centre has a Canopy Tour and an aerial walkway through the rain forest.  There is a lot of good information about rainforests at the centre. 

Make sure when you are in the Daintree that you take a rainforest walk with an accredited guide.  Siggy was our guide when we did it and she was wonderful.  The photo on the left was the monitor lizard that we came across.   We can put you with the right company when you go to the Daintree so that you can get the most from your rainforest experience.
