Like Riverland, life in Murraylands centers around the river. Located one hour’s drive west of Adelaide, the Murray is the world’s fourth largest river system. It starts in the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales, flows through Victoria where it combines with the Darling River coming down from Queensland, and together the two flow into the Southern Ocean. The Murray is Australia’s longest river. One of the things you must do when you are in this area is to take a river cruise. There are day cruises, overnight cruises or you can also rent a houseboat or take a paddle wheeler down the river. The Murray is used mostly for irrigation and the area is famous for the Murray cod.
