	Creating memories...one vacation at a time!


		Didi organized the first exhibition of tifaifais on Moorea and it was a huge success. It was truly a culutural exchange as exhibited were tifaifais from some of the women and the mamas on Moorea, Didi and Roxanne McElroy tifaifais, and our group’s tifaifais and quilts that they brought along for the exhibition. A reporter from La Depeche came and interviewed Didi and then published an article in the local newspaper about Rima Rau. We will do the same thing on the next Insider’s Tour and the exhibit should be bigger. Sixty-six quilts and tifaifais were shown and the exhibit was open to the public and many people staying at the hotel came and viewed it. Didi is the only quilter in the United States that specializes in the tifaifai and through her efforts she is trying to keep the tradition of the Tahitian tifaifai alive and well.



	Heinui’s mother named the exhibit Rima Rau which means “handwork” in Tahitian. The InterContinental Moorea made this wonderful poster to advertise the show.



		The exhibit was held at the Tyee Conference room at the InterContinental Moorea and at the same time Didi conducted her Design and Applique Workshops. The purple and white tifaifai on the front table is the logo for Roxanne Products, Didi’s company.



			Carol lives in Moorea and she cut down bamboo and made muslin jackets for each of the rods so we could hang the tifaifais. Thank you so very much Carol for all your hard work! We couldn’t have done it without you.





		Becky is holding a tifaifai done by Roxanne McElroy called “Scotch Thistle”.




				“Breadfruit”


					Several of the mamas from Moorea loaned us their lovely tifaifais to exhibit. Both of these (left and above) are over 60 years old and they are beautiful! We were thrilled to have them as part of the exhibition.



		The exhibit was a mixutre of tifaifais and quilts. Carolyn, Pat, Didi. Beth and Becky contributed the above quilts and tifaifais to the exhibit. Rima Rau was a wonderful sharing of techniques and styles.

These tifaifais were contributed by Dr. Dominique who lives on Moorea.

Didi created this wonderful tifaifai called “Morning Glory”.




	Jeannot Rey, left, a correspondant for La Depeche newspaper, interviewed Didi at the exhibit and above, the article that appeared in the newspaper. Above and below, everyone enjoyed posing in front of these wonderful tifaifais.
