Creating memories...one vacation at a time!

Didi took the group on a walking tour of Papeete.   We shopped at Le Marche (Papeete’s municipal market), visited black pearl stores and fabric stores, had a great lunch at Le Marchee and Didi introduced everyone to poisson cru and casse croutes.    Papeete is a bustling seaport town and the tour was a great introduction to the islands.

Downtown Papeete is a bustling city of black pearl shops, fabric stores, a wonderful municipal market wih fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and handicrafts and all sorts of other shops.

  The city hall.

Cathedral of Notre Dame in downtown Papeete. Didi told us that when the tsunami hit Papeete years ago, people could ride boats around the steeple!

There are several fabric stores that Didi likes in Papeete.  Venus and Hawaii are just a couple of her favorite places.

SCENES IN THE MUNICIPAL MARKET

Pam enjoying the market and all the wonderful things you can buy.

The market sells everything from fruits, fish, meats, vegetables, baked items to clothing, t-shirts, fans, pareos, lotions, baskets, hats, carvings, black pearls, necklaces and much, much more.  You name it, the market has it.

There are no dressing rooms at the market but the staff is very helpful when someone wants to try something on.

Lunch was at the cafeteria on the second floor, serenaded by a ukelele trio.   Aini got up close and personal with the group.

Poisson cru is one of Didi’s favorite meals to eat when she comes to the islands.   It is marinated fish with coconut milk and can be bought at the cafeteria on the second floor of the market.

This is my favorite artist at the market.   His name is Reva and his stand is located in the back corner of another stand on the second floor.  He makes wonderful carvings on oyster shells plus combines shells and black pearls together.  He even carves on black pearls!
