Creating memories.....one vacation at a time!

You haven’t been Down Under ‘til you’ve been Outback!

If you enjoy hiking into beautiful gorges, you will love the walking trails you can take in Kakadu National Park. Many of them end up at billabongs.  Some are accessible by paved roads but others can only be reached by 4-wheel drives.  Some are open only during the dry season.

BARRAMUNDI GORGE (MAGUK)

The hike into Barramundi Gorge is over rocks and a river but well worth it once you get there.

JIM JIM FALLS
Jim Jim is a 2-hour drive from the Bowali Centre over a rough dirt road.   It is open only during the dry season.  During the wet season the roads are closed, but you can still see the falls by flying over them.

Left - the road to Jim Jim Falls.  Above - traffic jam in the outback.

You can only access Jim Jim Falls with a 4-wheel drive vehicle.  It is a .6 mile strenuous walk over boulders to the falls.   The waterfall dries up during the dry season (see left photo taken in September) but looks like the below photo during the wet season.

Left and above:  Towering sandstone walls set in a monsoon rainforest.

TWIN FALLS GORGE

Access to Twin Falls is by boat shuttle service, a walking track over boulders, sand, and a boardwalk.

Getting to Twin Falls is half the fun.  The gorge is beautiful.
