Creating memories.....one vacation at a time!

Steve and Sally visited the Maritime Provinces in Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island) in September of 2007.  They flew into Quebec, explored Quebec City, and then took the overnight Via Rail from Quebec to Halifax, Nova Scotia.  They rented a car and explored Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.  They took the ferry back across to Nova Scotia and then drove up to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and explored the island and Cabot Trail.  Click on the buttons above to see some of Steve’s wonderful  photos from that trip.

QUEBEC CITY

Quebec City is located at the mouth of the St. Charles River which flows into the St. Lawrence River. It is not part of the Maritime Provinces but is a starting point for going to the Maritimes.   You can fly there and then take the train to Nova Scotia.   The city was founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain and is the capital of Quebec Province.  Quebec Old City has been designated a historic monument and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.  French is the main language spoken in the province and Quebec is known as “la Nouvelle France”.

They took Via Rail’s Ocean train which runs nightly six times a week between Montreal and Halifax.  They picked it up in Charnay which is outside of Quebec City.

September & October is a good time to go to Quebec to see the fall colors.

Quebec City’s most famous landmark is the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac where Steve and Sally stayed.  It was built in 1892 for the Canadian Pacific Railway and dominates the town.
