Creating memories...one vacation at a time!

Sunday, January 22:  The quilters collected plants and designed their tifaifai patterns based on what they had collected and what they had experienced on the tour.  Once they designed their patterns, they basted them onto a piece of material and then cut out the pattern.  The cloth pattern was then basted onto another piece of material.  On Monday,  they spent another 1/2 day in a workshop while Didi taught her special applique technique.  A tifaifai is a lightweight version of a quilt, suitable for the hot Polynesian climate.
When you finish looking at this page, click on The Tifaifais button to see the wonderful tifaifais that were created.

These were some of the plants that were collected and used as designs in the tifaifais.

While everyone worked on their tifaifais, Heinui hung out with his nephew, Rainbow,  and Victoria played Tahitian monopoly with her cousins.  Then we all took a break for lunch (right).
