Papeete, the capital of Tahiti & Her Islands, is located on the north coast of the island of Tahiti, it
is the largest of the 118 islands. It is a bustling seaport town alive with activity. It is the administrative, health and business center for the 219,500 people who inhabit the five
archipelagos of Tahiti and Her Islands.
There is much to do and see in Papeete - from the marketplace to the museums, to shopping and all the sports
activities. There are outdoor cafes, shops, galleries and stores displaying & shops selling the famous Black Pearls. You can ride Le Truck around town or take the catamaran to
Moorea. In the evening, you can visit the waterfront and eat at a "roulotte" as the Tahitians do, then sit in a sidewalk cafe and watch the world go by. You can drink the
locally-brewed Hinano beer and partake of a Tahitian feast. You will experience an abundance of meats, seafood, fresh vegetables and tropical fruits served in Tahitian or
French-style. All styles of cooking are represented in Tahiti from pizza to Italian to Chinese. You can shop in the Marche Papeete (the local municipal market) for pareus (a style
of Tahitian sarong), mother-of -pearl, local wood carvings, many varieties of flavored coconut oils (monoi) and soaps and many other Polynesian handicrafts. You can also visit the local fabric
shops and visit many different shops surrounding the market and along Boulevard Pomare.
