The most famous region in the South West portion of Western Australia is Margaret River with its 45 wineries.  Located 181 miles south of Perth, are other experiences to bring you to this area.   Whale-watching is June through December, wildflowers bloom from August through October and the 81-mile stretch from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin is perfect for abseiling and rock-climbing.   This area has B&B’s,  good restaurants, shops, galleries and beaches.

BUNBURY is home to the Dolphin Discovery Centre (above), Big Swamp Wildlife Park, Ngilgi Caves and several wineries.

BUSSELTON is home to the heritage-listed Busselton Jetty, the longest timber jetty or pier in the Southern Hemisphere.  Associated with the jetty is the Underwater Observatory at the end of the pier which descends under the sea for amazing views of corals and marine life.

The MARGARET RIVER area has 45 wineries.  Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are the most popular.  Most wineries offer free tastings.  The area is also known for a rugged coastline, bush and coastal walk trails, canoeing, abseiling, caving, rock climbing, fishing, snorkeling, surfing  and swimming. 

Leeuwin Winery, in the Margaret River region, was a collaboration between owners Denis and Tricia Horgan and Robert Mondavi of the Napa Valley, California.
