Les Roulottes

Any travel agent can issue a ticket or book a cruise . . .
We create Travel Experiences . . . that extra effort is our hallmark!

Another Tahitian experience that the group experienced was eating at the roulottes on the dock in downtown Papeete. These are food vans and the food cooked there tells the history of Tahiti.  You can eat fantastic Chinese food because the chinese were brought to Tahiti in the 1860s to work on a cotton plantation.  When the plantation went bankrupt, many of the Chinese stayed on Tahiti and they are many of the merchants in Tahiti today.   The French colonized Tahiti and you can feast on crepes, poisson cru, and othe french delicacies.   The Tahitians will cook entire pigs, have wonderful meats and the roulotte experience is an amalgam of the culture ofTahiti.

The roulottes start about 6 p.m.

Didi telling the group about the roulottes and how they have been a tradition in Papeete for years.

Only in Papeete - this food van was selling pizza and crepes!

Beth's favorite place for crepes is Chez Marie.

Heinui helps the group order.

The chef from the crepe van also owns a restaurant in Papeete.

Typical menu.    The prices are very inexpensive and the food is excellent.

This is a pig roasting over an open fire but no Jack Frost nipping at your toes!
