One of the places you must see is the Green Gables House located off of Route 6 on the North Shore, a forty-five minute drive from Charlottetown. The home was once the
farmhouse of Margaret and David Macneill, who were cousins of Lucy Maud's grandfather. Lucy Maud visited their farm often as a child and based the setting of her novel Anne of Green Gables on the home and its surroundings. Of course, in her book, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert and Anne Shirley lived there. The farmland was preserved by the Federal Government within Prince Edward Island National Park in 1937. The home has been restored and furnished the way it would have been in Anne's day. It is a living monument to the Anne of Green Gables book. Also located here is Lover's Lane, Anne's Babbling Brook and the Haunted Wood, all locations featured in her books.
