Victoria is the smallest mainland state and is located in the southeastern corner of Australia. Melbourne, its capital, lies on the shores of Port Phillip Bay and offers easy access to many different experiences. Gold was discovered in the 1850s and brought many different types of people to this part of Australia. Besides Melbourne and the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas outside of Melbourne, you can also discover 35 national parks including the Grampians, Dandenongs and Snowy Mountains; the Murray River which separates Victoria from New South Wales; the gold fields including Ballarat and Sovereign Hill; the little penguins at Phillip Island; the Twelve Apostles on the Great Ocean Road; and the famous wineries of the Yarra Valley.
Victoria has four distinct seasons (opposite the US calendar seasons) and temperatures can range from 43 degrees in the winter to 77 degrees in the summer. To discover more about this diverse state, click the Melbourne link above.
