The state is known for its white sand beaches, ancient forests, pastureland, wildflowers, a reef that rivals the Great Barrier Reef, desert terrain, wine tasting, pearls, whale watching, bottle-nosed dolphins, whale sharks, gold mining, diamonds, historic towns and a wonderful outback. The capital is Perth, and other interesting towns and areas are Fremantle, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Carnarvon, Exmouth and Ningaloo Reef, Broome, Derby and Margaret River.
