Creating memories.....one vacation at a time!

NOTO & INFIORATA FLOWER FESTIVAL

Noto is in south-western portion of Sicily and is 20 miles southwest of Siracusa at the foot of the Iblean Mountains.   In 1693 the town was demolished by an earthquake and the new town was built 16 km away from the ruins, which can still be seen if you go to Antica Noto.  Noto is an UNESCO Heritage site and is famous for its 18th century Baroque buildings which were built out of soft tufa stone and appear golden.

We took the train from Siracusa to Noto and spent the day in this charming town.  You enter the  town through  the Porta Reale which was built in 1838.  We were lucky to be there when the yearly Infiorata di Noto Flower Festival was going on.   Flower carpets are created and the theme this year is “Art makes peace; the Infiorata that Unites,  Hope Beyond Borders”.
