The tiny hillside town of Chateauneuf-en-Auxois is like going back to the Middle Ages. The chateau was built in the 12th century by Philippe Pot, a knight of the "Toison d'or" (Golden Fleece) and the village grew up around it and overlooks the rolling farmland as far as the eye can see. The chateau is a fine example of medieval architecture and has a chapel decorated with wall paintings. Many of the houses date from the 14th and 15th century and today only about 80 people live in the village. |
Charming hotels abound throughout Burgundy. One of our favorite places to dine - Hostellerie du Chateau. The restaurant serves classical Burgundy fare - roasted Epoisses (local cow's milk cheese) on a salad bed with walnuts, noisettes of lamb with thyme, and coq au vin, are just some of their wonderful choices. |
