Three kilometers from Beaune, the castellany of Pommard was established by Eudes, the first Duke of Burgundy, in 1098. Carefully preserved, the clos (or walled vineyard) of Chateau de
Pommard is the largest remaining undivided estate (50 acres) in Burgundy. The chateau was erected in the beginning of the 18th century by Vivant Micaut, Squire and Secretary to the King, House and Crown of
France. Today the proprietor, Jean-Louis Laplanche, continues to bottle great wines. Tours are given of the chateau's wine cellars followed by a tasting of their fine wines.
