Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the biggest villages of the Cote de Nuits and is also one of the largest wine villages because of the vineyards located within its boundaries. The vineyards produce wines which are made into
Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines. September is harvesting time in this area and here are some pictures in one of the vineyards outside of Gevrey-Chambertin. In the town of Fixin (pronouced Fussen) you can buy the wines
that are produced in this vineyard.
Fixin is located just to the south of Dijon and is one of the first villages along the Route des Grands Crus which runs 30 miles in a straight line through the great wine villages of the Cote d'Or. Here is a description of the characteristics of the Fixin wines.
"The Fixins are generally highly coloured wines. Their structure is predominately tannic. With excellent acidity, they preserve a solidity and
structure which ranks them amongst wines to be kept long in the cellar. Their aromas are animal (fur, musk) to which the pinot always contributes its typical scent of red and black berries (black currants, cherry, black
berries)."
