DJUPIVOGUR - “DEEP COVE” Djupivogur is a small fishing village dating from the 1600’s on the east coast of Iceland. The fishing town is on a peninsula between Berufjordur and Hamarsfjordur fjords and is the gateway to Glacier Lagoon Jokulsarion, the largest lake in Iceland, and Iceland’s third national park, Vatnajokull National Park which includes the glacier Vatnajokull. The Glacier Lagoon Jokulsarion keeps increasing in size due to the melting of Vatnajokull glacier, and the icebergs that float in the lake. The park is a UNESCO Heritage site and covers 5,676 miles. Underneath Vatnajokull lie at least five active volcanoes! The highlight of going to Glacier Lagoon Jokulsarion is taking a boat ride on the lake and getting up close to the icebergs.
